Schallaburg Castle, located in the Melk Alpine foothills of Lower Austria, is a significant Renaissance cultural monument. Originally built as a medieval fortification, it was remodeled in the 16th century and is recognized as one of the most beautiful Renaissance castles north of the Alps. The site functions as an international exhibition center, hosting annually changing, top-class exhibitions designed to encourage reflection. A current exhibition, "The '80s—Borders Were a Thing of the Past," runs from April 11 to November 5, 2026.

The castle is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Visitors can explore the grounds, which feature a Renaissance-style terracotta arcade courtyard, sgraffiti decorations, and gardens. The "Castle & nature experience" includes hiking trails and a restaurant, blending medieval architecture with landscaped grounds. Guided tours are available for €6.00 per person, excluding general entrance fees. These tours last approximately 75 minutes and cover the castle's history and architecture. They are scheduled from Tuesday to Friday at 10:30, 12:30, and 14:30, and on weekends and holidays at 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 14:00, 15:00, and 16:00.
