Highline179 Bridge
World's longest Tibetan-style suspension bridge
Highline179 is a pedestrian suspension bridge in Austrian Tyrol that connects the Ehrenberg castle ruins with Fort Claudia. Opened to the public in November 2014, it spans 406 meters with a height of 114.60 meters. The bridge holds the Guinness World Record for the "Longest pedestrian suspension bridge in Tibetan style." Designed by architect Armin Walch, the structure features a slim, open design to minimize environmental impact. It has a walkway width of 1.2 meters and is supported by four 60mm cables anchored into the rock. The bridge offers a 360-degree panoramic view and a sensation of floating above the valley.
The bridge is open daily from 08:00 to 22:00, though it may close during ice, heavy snowfall, or strong wind. Admission fees are €10.00 for adults, €6.00 for children aged 4–14, and €30.00 for a family ticket. Groups of 20 or more pay €9.00 per person. Tickets can be purchased online or at on-site machines, with barrier-free tickets available exclusively at the ticket center. Strollers are not allowed on the bridge.
Visitors must park at the Burgenwelt Ehrenberg car parks in Klause, as there is no parking at the bridge itself. The site is accessible by car, train (Reutte in Tirol station), or plane (nearest airports are Innsbruck and Munich). The bridge connects two significant parts of a Central European fortress ensemble, providing both a physical and historical link. The experience combines engineering marvel with scenic alpine views, offering a unique perspective of the Tyrolean landscape. This setting allows travelers to engage with both modern architectural achievement and historical military heritage.
