The Semmering Ski Resort, located in Lower Austria on the border with Styria, offers a compact winter sports experience at an altitude of approximately 950 to 1,340 meters. The area comprises two connected ski centers, Stuhleck and Hirschenkogel, providing slopes suitable for skiing and snowboarding. The resort is easily accessible from Vienna and Graz, with travel times of about one hour by car or public transport.
For visitors, the resort operates daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM during the day, with night skiing available from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on specific dates, including peak periods and select evenings in late January and February. Admission prices for the Winter 2025/2026 season range from €28.50 for children to €56.50 for adults for a full-day ticket. Specialty tickets for morning, afternoon, or night sessions are also available, along with multi-day passes.
Historically, the area gained prominence with the completion of the Semmering Railway in 1854, which boosted tourism from Vienna. The region has hosted Alpine Ski World Cup events, adding to its sporting reputation. Beyond skiing, the resort features a 3-kilometer toboggan run and night pistes. At the summit, the Liechtensteinhaus offers panoramic views and a sun terrace. The Sporthotel am Semmering provides nearby accommodation and dining. The resort combines alpine sports with the cultural heritage of the Semmering region, offering a convenient destination for winter activities.
