Baroque palaces housing Klimt's The Kiss
The Belvedere Palace in Vienna is a major cultural landmark comprising the Upper and Lower Baroque palaces, along with Belvedere 21, connected by formal gardens. Located at Prinz-Eugen-Straße 27, the site houses an extensive collection of Austrian art, most notably Gustav Klimt’s masterpiece, The Kiss. The Upper Belvedere showcases 800 years of art history, including works by Egon Schiele and Vincent van Gogh, while the Lower Belvedere hosts temporary exhibitions in Prince Eugene’s former residence. Belvedere 21 focuses on contemporary art and post-war modernist architecture.
Visitors can explore these venues with guided tours or multimedia guides. Standard admission for the Upper Belvedere is €23.00 for adults, with reduced rates for students and seniors at €19.00. Entry is free for children and youth under 19. The Lower Belvedere charges €17.00 for adults, with discounted rates of €13.00 for students and seniors. The museum is open daily from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with extended hours until 7:00 PM during the summer period from July 15 to August 31.
It is recommended to book tickets online in advance to avoid queues, especially during peak times on weekends and in summer. Visitors should allow buffer time for cloakrooms and timed entry.
