Sölden Cable Car (Söllereck)
1950 gondola with 6-person cabins
The Söllereck Cable Car in Sölden offers a direct ascent to one of the region’s most accessible high-altitude destinations, combining modern convenience with a rich historical legacy. Originally commissioned in 1950, the lift has evolved significantly to meet the demands of contemporary alpine tourism. Today, visitors ride a modern six-person gondola, a major upgrade completed in 1997 that increased capacity to 1,700 people per hour. This efficient transport system connects the valley floor to the Berghaus Schönblick, a facility with deep roots in the area’s sporting culture.
The site’s history dates back to around 1912 with the construction of the Berghaus Schönblick by the Liebherr family. For decades, it served as a crucial training ground for young skiers, a role it maintained until its acquisition by KurAG in 2009. The mountain itself has been a focal point for recreation since the mid-20th century, celebrating its first million passengers in 1956.
For travelers, the Söllereck provides a versatile experience across seasons. In winter, the area supports skiing and snowboarding, while summer months offer hiking and biking opportunities. The surrounding infrastructure includes various lifts and trails, such as the nature trail added in 2008, which allows visitors to explore the local flora and fauna at their own pace. The Berghaus Schönblick serves as a central hub, providing shelter and amenities for those seeking to enjoy the panoramic views of the Ötztal Alps. Whether visiting for sport or sightseeing, the cable car offers a straightforward and historically significant entry point into the high alpine environment of Sölden.
