The Eisriesenwelt, located in Werfen, Austria, is the largest ice cave in the world. It is open to visitors daily from May 1 to November 1. Access involves a significant physical effort, as visitors must climb 134 meters in altitude, equivalent to ascending a 40-story building. The temperature inside the cave remains consistently below 0°C, even during summer months.
Visitors are advised to wear sturdy shoes and warm clothing, including a hat and gloves. The tour is not recommended for individuals with severe mobility issues or for children under three to four years old due to the physical demands and cold conditions. Good cardiovascular health is essential for this experience.
Admission requires pre-reservation due to limited capacity. Online tickets are available at a reduced price compared to on-site purchases. For example, adult tickets cost €41 when booked online, whereas on-site tickets are €45. Youth (ages 15–18) pay €30 online versus €32 on-site, and children (ages 5–14) pay €22 online versus €24 on-site. Online booking guarantees entry within a specific 30-minute time window, while on-site purchases may result in waiting times.
The visitor center operates from 8:30 to 15:00, the cable car from 8:45 to 15:20, and cave tours from 9:30 to 15:45. The attraction offers panoramic views of the Salzach Valley and is particularly recommended during hot weather as a cool retreat.
