Ski resort in Semmering, Austria
The Hirschenkogel Ski Resort is a year-round recreational destination located in the Semmering region, on the border of Lower Austria and Styria. Rising to an elevation of 1,340 meters, the resort offers panoramic views of the Viennese Alps and is approximately one hour’s drive from Vienna and Graz. The area is historically significant, situated near the Semmering Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site completed in 1854, which reflects the region’s heritage as a retreat for Austrian aristocracy and artists.
In winter, the resort features 14 kilometers of pistes, including a World Cup course suitable for experienced skiers. The area is accessible via cable cars, with the Liechtensteinhaus at the summit providing a venue for dining with panoramic views.
During the summer months, the resort transforms into a hub for outdoor activities. Visitors can explore an 18-kilometer bike park with trails for various skill levels, ride a mountain cart down a 3-kilometer track, or navigate a forest ropes course. A Millennium viewing platform offers additional scenic vistas. The region also supports hiking along the historic railway trail and golfing at the Semmering Golf Club, located at 1,000 meters altitude.
The resort operates seasonally. Visitors are advised to check current schedules before traveling. The combination of winter sports and summer adventure activities makes Hirschenkogel a versatile destination for those seeking outdoor recreation in the Austrian Alps.
